Yolanda Shayan, Enrolment Advisor - BC

Yolanda has a Master Degree in Political Science, specialized in the European Union from University of Birmingham in the UK. When she got back home to Vancouver in 2006, she started working in the education industry. As she says “There was nothing more enjoyable and pleasant than working with students and help them pursue their education and future career goals”.

Yolanda is a busy mom of three boys (that includes her husband too! As she says). She understands how crazy it gets to deal with busy life. Having said that, she knows that new students could sometimes get overwhelmed and discouraged to start a new education path. That’s why her goal is not only to help and advise them in their admission process, but also to make the pace as smooth as a walk in the park!

Tomoko Poolthupya, Student Success Advisor - BC

Tomoko?holds a MA in Counselling Psychology from Tsukuba University in Japan and she is a Registered Clinical Counsellor?? (RCC) through the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. Tomoko has over 8 years’ experience in the Japanese higher education arena including working as an international student advisor and a student counsellor. She enjoys learning about different cultural aspects. She is a soccer mom who is now embarking on a new adventure, learning violin alongside her younger son.



Maricel Agustines, Student Success Advisor - BC

Maricel holds a degree in Communication and?has worked in the education industry since she migrated from Dubai, UAE. Her passion and experience in marketing and business development inspire her advocacy for learning related matters. She is a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) and owns a private practice in the field. Maricel thinks that cooking is therapeutic but trying out food from other cultures and learning about the background stories, such as Anthony Bourdain's food show, keeps her delighted all the time.

Maika Tshimbalanga, Director of Enrollment and Student Success

Maika?has?extensive experience?in the higher education and not-for-profit sectors?over the past 20 years.??For the past?14 years, Maika has?been an integral part of the?student services team in Canada?and she ?is currently the Director of Enrollment and Student Success.? Prior to joining CityU, she managed a crisis centre and led an admission team for a weekend university. ?She holds a M.A. in International Management from the Université de Montréal in Montréal, Québec and is also pursuing a doctoral degree in in Education and Leadership (Ed.D.) with a particular interest in adult learners at ?Simon Fraser University. ?She is proficient in both official Canadian languages - English and French..

Maika’s?primary responsibility is to ensure excellence and accountability in recruitment and advising across all sites and programs in Canada by leading the student success and advising team.


Andjelka Obradovic, Site Supervisor - Vancouver

Andjelka is originally from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, where she worked as a Pension Legal Advisor for 16 years advising clients on retirement and pension matters. Andjelka immigrated to Canada in 1996 with her late husband and two children.? She began her career at CityU in 1999 and she assists the advising team?in providing by?serving as the primary contact?for students?and providing?general administrative support.? She also manages classroom scheduling?and coordinates daily staffing operations. . In her spare time, Andjelka loves to cook, travel, and dance.? She is part of a performing folk dance group, in which she actively dances three nights a week.

Christine Sjolander, Vice President, Business and Operations, Canada

Christine has more than 25 years in enrolment management, admissions, recruitment, alumni relations, student services, career management, international student services, and academic advisement. Most recently, she served as Executive Director of the Graduate Career Management at Simon Fraser University's Beedie School of Business. Prior to immigrating to Canada in 2010, she worked in four U.S. based, post-secondary institutions based in New York and California. She holds a BBA, Masters in Engineering and a Doctorate in Education (EdD).?? When not at work, she can be found curled up with a glass of Okanagan wine, a good book and her ancient, retired racing greyhound, Shirley.
